«Innovation requires overcoming one’s own inertia and that of others.»
J.B.E. Estienne

Estienne Medical was formed with a pioneering and inquisitive spirit to expand the frontiers of what is possible. We believe that innovation goes far beyond the technology on its own. It is the tactical and strategical implementation of new technologies that determine their success. The how is just as important as the what.

Inspiration

Estienne Medical strives to facilitate the introduction of radical innovations into medical practice with a view to reducing harm for patients and costs to the health care systems that serve them. Our driving insight is that these innovations must fit into the practice of the health care professionals and the implementation should be co-developed with them. It is this practical implementation that is key to the success and the realisation of value of such innovations.

You won’t have to learn from mistakes but benefit from extensive experience and get it right first time. Realise the value of your innovation!

Acquisition of start-up technologies: due diligence, negotiation facilitation

Whether as a seller or a buyer this process is fraught with possible pit-falls. For one side asymmetric knowledge is an issue for the other a need to protect proprietary knowledge and ensure maximum value for the intellectual property built up before the deal is done. A very experienced hand can bridge both the confidence and the cultural gaps to ensure both sides maximise their value gain.

N

Integration of start-ups in multi-national businesses

Over 70% of such integrations fail to reach their expected value. Our extensive experience shows this can in all cases be avoided. Its not over when the deal is signed. The work is only about to start. We have extensive experience with both negotiating transitional services agreements as well as making them work.

Bertrand Hughes

Bertrand Hughes has over 20 year’s international experience in the development, marketing and M+A of medical device technologies, particularly in the fields of wound care, patient safety and infection control.

He has held global responsibilities in international companies in each of these areas. Bertrand has repeatedly led the acquisition and successful integration of start-up companies into large multi-national organisations.

As a multi-lingual global citizen and an MBA Alumnus of INSEAD his cultural diversity has proven an invaluable asset in complex deal negotiations where cultural blind spots can otherwise lead to misunderstandings leaving money left on the table and sub-optimal transitional service agreements.

Bertrand’s ability to build empathy and trust have saved several deals from entrenched negotiations. We are happy to provide references for this.

Where is he from? With Anglo-Irish-French routes he has also lived in Scandinavia, Germany, Belgium, USA, Poland and Switzerland. He has extensive negotiation experience with Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Arabs, Maghrebians, Iberians, Italians, Turks and Brasilians.

You can benefit from this very extensive experience and get it right first time.

Surfaceskins

We are currently working together with the UK-start-up Surfaceskins to support the global roll-out of their patented hand hygiene innovation, which acts as a complement to alcohol based hand gel and thereby prevents cross contamination via contact with door surfaces.

Surfaceskins comes as a push-pad or a pull-handle and can be retrofitted on any swing door. The pad or handle disinfects itself directly after contact, so that everyone passing is protected against contamination from previous users. Obviously a highly relevant and important contribution to the prevention of the spread of viral infections.

In a recent study conducted by the renowned hospital hygiene expert, Prof Mark Wilcox, the operating theatre hand hygiene compliance was improved by 80%.
